Journalist Lee Ryder has praised Newcastle United defender Fabian Schar for his ‘sparkling display’ in the club’s most recent win.
Indeed, the Magpies hosted Aston Villa at St. James’ Park and cruised to a 4-0 victory. Two goals from Callum Wilson and further strikes from Joelinton and Miguel Almiron were more than enough to seal the win.
However, while the goalscorers naturally earned their own plaudits, Ryder took time in the player ratings for Chronicle Live to hand Schar a rating of 8/10 and praise him heavily.
The journalist wrote: “A sparkling display at the back. Picked out passes and controlled the defensive zone with ease.”
Is Fabian Schar now undroppable?
TIF Thoughts on Fabian Schar and Newcastle United…
The stats on SofaScore certainly go some way to back up what Ryder has written. Indeed, the defender completed 80 per cent of his passing, delivered one key pass, pulled off 5/8 long balls, won 2/4 duels, made two tackles, and one clearance.
Schar has missed just one league game for Newcastle all season long. Incidentally, that was the loss away at Liverpool – the only game, the Magpies have lost all season (via Transfermarkt).
Evidently, he’s been absolutely vital for the club of late and having starred in this most recent win, helping his side also keep a clean sheet, it certainly feels fair that he was praised post-game for his efforts.
