Craig Hope has claimed on the True Faith podcast that Newcastle United’s current transfer spending isn’t sustainable after speaking to Dan Ashworth on the topic.

It has been a very big week on Tyneside with Darren Eales and Dan Ashworth all taking part in several interviews with the local press to get to know them and to showcase why they have taken up their roles at Newcastle.

Something that was obviously brought up was transfer and the work that’s already been done, but fans wanting this lavish spending of over £200 million in one calendar year to continue won’t have liked his answer, claiming it was unstable to do so.

Hope echoes those words claiming that spending so much money without players going out the door really is unsustainable.

(11:40) “They have spent a lot of money, they’ve spent an amount that, to quote Dan Ashworth, isn’t sustainable. It’s not that it’s not sustainable, but it’s not sustainable on the current model.

Will Newcastle finish inside the top six?

Yes!

Yes!

No!

No!

“It’s not sustainable on the model of let’s be facetious, close to zero commercial income in the grand scheme of things. It’s not sustainable on the basis of having no player sales, absolutely no money coming back in that regard.”

TIF Thoughts on Newcastle’s spending power…

While some fans may look at this and think they have the league’s richest football club owners, so should be able to spend whatever they want, but that simply isn’t the case because of Financial Fair Play regulation and it’s a very sensible approach from PIF.

How well do you remember Newcastle's January transfer window? An easy one to start with: where did Newcastle sign Bruno Guimaraes from?

Their spending powers could become a lot better in the near future though as the club are looking to potentially sell off the naming rights to St James’ Park and are also set to cut ties with shirt sponsor FUN88 early to bring in a lucrative deal.

If Newcastle are wishing to fulfil Amanda Staveley’s dream of winning the Premier League within 10 years, then they will have to keep spending money, improving their squad and academy to try and catch up with the league’s elite.
