Ben Jacobs has admitted that Newcastle United could now easily miss out on summer transfer target James Maddison.

It was reported over the summer that Newcastle were very keen on landing Maddison as they saw two bids being knocked back with the latter one said to be around £50 million, but given his form this season, his price tag will now clearly only increase.

Maddison is one of the most in-form players in the Premier League with five goals and two assists so far, but even before this blistering start, reports had suggested that the Magpies would be going back in for the midfielder in January, although that now could become a lot more difficult.

Jacobs has been speaking on The Done Deal Show about how Maddison may now pass Newcastle by in upcoming transfer windows due to his incredible form.

(1:04:35) “Maddison is playing too well, almost to the point where Newcastle could become bypassed in this conversation and that’s kind of good news for Leicester in January as well because if I was James Madison, I would keep doing what I was doing.

Is Maddison worth £60 million?

Yes!

Yes!

No!

No!

“If he went to the World Cup and shone he puts himself in the shop window, but he can wait until the summer, play well for Leicester and then wait for a club to come in for him, maybe like a Spurs with Champions League football, so there’s no need for Madison to rush to Newcastle.”

TIF Thoughts on Newcastle’s interest in Maddison…

The Leicester midfielder, who is allegedly PIF’s ‘top’ target for January, has shown just why Newcastle were so keen to sign him over the summer as his ability to influence the game in the final third is very special, and he showcased that to everyone on Monday night live on TV with two goals and an assist.

How well do you remember Newcastle's January transfer window? An easy one to start with: where did Newcastle sign Bruno Guimaraes from?

However, for every goal and good performance that Maddison manages, it will likely only make the Magpies’ attempts to land him in both January and next summer even more difficult as clubs with European football will likely start to become more interested.

Maddison would likely slot into Newcastle’s midfield three alongside Bruno Guimaraes and one other player, but he wouldn’t likely have much competition given how great he is in the final third and how poor the Magpies” current options are, they have just one goal between them this season.

There was never any chance that Leicester would sell Maddison in January to Newcastle or anyone else. I know you seek to promote the interests of the Saudi-owned club but try to be just a little neutral.
