Leeds United manager Jesse Marsch will have spoken to winger Luis Sinisterra and “put him straight” following his red card after picking up two bookings in last weekend’s clash at Elland Road.

That is the opinion of journalist Pete O’Rourke, who was speaking to This is Futbol about the latest news from West Yorkshire, ahead of the Whites’ trip to Crystal Palace on Sunday.

Sinisterra was sent off in the 48th minute against Aston Villa last weekend with the game level at 0-0 after picking up a second yellow card, which Sky Sports pundit Roy Keane branded as “daft”.

The dismissal meant that Marsch had to adopt a more defensive approach to the game in a bid to take a point away from the fixture, having a man fewer than the opposition for the majority of the second half.

And despite the red card not costing Leeds all the points, O’Rourke believes that Marsch will have had words with Sinisterra about his conduct.

He said: “He [Marsch] will be hoping that Sinisterra has now learnt his lesson and he won’t be picking up silly yellow cards like he did in that game.

“It’s a learning process for all these players, especially these players who are maybe coming in from different leagues.

“I’m sure Jesse Marsch has put him straight not to be getting himself involved in trouble like that again.”

TIF Thoughts on O’Rourke’s comments…

We believe that Marsch will have had no choice but to reprimand Sinisterra, with his petulance potentially costing the Whites a victory in last Sunday’s fixture.

The £21m signing will have to adapt quickly to the Premier League culture and learn that referees are perhaps a tad more intolerant in English football than they were in the Eredivisie, and are not afraid to make big (or incorrect) decisions.

Therefore, we believe that Marsch will have disciplined Sinisterra in some form with the winger now being unavailable for Sunday’s trip to Palace.
