Leeds United’s Sam Greenwood has taken to Instagram to own up for the mistake he made in midweek for the Under-21s as he got sent off.
Greenwood has experienced an interesting time of things under Jesse Marsch, having found a potential new position in the centre of midfield and trusted to start there in their final game of last season which saw the Whites confirm their Premier League status.
However, he is still yet to fully break into the first team despite consistently being named on the bench in the Premier League, but he likely won’t have pleased Marsch this week as he was sent off in the Papa John’s Trophy against Tranmere Rovers for two poor challenges.
But on reflection, he has shown some maturity by taking to Instagram and admitting he will learn from his mistake.
Is Greenwood good enough for Leeds?
Yes!
No!
TIF Thoughts on Greenwood…
Much like his fellow young teammate Joe Gelhardt, first-team opportunities may start to become few and far between after the summer transfer window at Elland Road saw Marsch bring in players he saw fit to operate in his system.
However, being willing to turn out for the Under-21s in the Papa John’s Trophy instead of demanding to remain with the first team will likely only improve Greenwood and how Marsch sees him as a person.
Greenwood is still just 20 so has plenty of years left ahead of him, but if he fails to nail down some minutes and starts before the World Cup starts, he may well look to head out on loan in January and get more first-team experience.
