Journalist Joe Donnohue reacted with concern after noting that Leeds United youngster Harvey Sutcliffe has ended up on crutches.
Earlier this week, the club’s Under-21s were in Premier League 2 action at the Stadium of Light, where a single goal from Wilfried Gnonto was enough to settle the match 1-0 in the Whites’ favour.
And while those at Leeds would have been delighted, with the win over Sunderland meaning their youngsters have not been beaten at that level for eight matches, it wasn’t all good news.
Indeed, while speaking about the game on the Inside Elland Road podcast, Donnohue explained that Sutcliffe suffered a knee injury, and it doesn’t look good for the defender.
He said: “Bit disappointing that Harvey Sutcliffe went off late with an injury – a knee problem.
“He left the Stadium of Light on crutches. We’re still waiting to hear definitively on what that is and how long he will be out for.”

As Donnohue explains, it remains to be seen as to how long exactly Sutcliffe will be out for, but Jesse Marsch did confirm on Friday that he has suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament and will consequently be sidelined for a ‘lengthy’ period.
This will no doubt come as a huge blow for the 19-year-old as it will halt his progress at a vital stage of his career. Sutcliffe had been featuring regularly in the Leeds Premier League 2 team this term, winning in all four of his appearances for the club.
On top of that, he showed his versatility playing as both a left and right-back, catching the eye against Nottingham Forest when he claimed two assists in the 5-1 victory.
Hopefully, he can make a full recovery from this major setback.
