Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Everton transfer target Jonathan David is set to leave his current club in 2023.

It has been claimed over the last few weeks that Everton have been shown an interest in a move for the Canadian striker, and their hopes of landing him may have just increased given he is set to leave Lille after the World Cup.

David has been tearing it up over in France with Lille, registering nine goals and three assists in 12 league appearances, helping his club find themselves inside the top six of Ligue 1 – but he may not be there for much longer.

This is because Romano has claimed on his YouTube channel that reported Everton striker target David is set to leave either in January or next summer.

He said: “Jonathan David, I’m told that soon, many clubs will move and there is a great, great chance for him to make his move in 2023.

“Let’s see if it will be January, let’s see if it will be [in the] summer, but Jonathan David is expected to leave Lille in 2023 and many clubs are tracking him.”

TIF Thoughts on Everton target David…

Everton attempted to address their striker department over the summer with the signing of Neal Maupay, although he’s only managed to score once since joining the Toffees and certainly hasn’t been able to replace Richarlison’s goals.

Therefore, if David does indeed enjoy a great World Cup with Canada, Everton may look to beef up their interest in the striker and try to land him mid-season to help ease the burden on Dominic Calvert-Lewin.

However, it certainly won’t be cheap, with Lille apparently demanding more than £40m for David, and if Everton were to sign him, that could potentially make the striker their most expensive signing.
