Everton could be among a number of clubs looking to sign Blackburn Rovers and Chile striker Ben Brereton Diaz in January.

That is according to journalist Pete O’Rourke, who was speaking to This is Futbol about the latest transfer news from Goodison Park.

Everton are reportedly among a number of clubs interested in securing Brereton Diaz’s signature in January, with the 14-time Chile international’s contract expiring at the end of the season.

However, at the time of writing, it seems that La Liga side Sevilla are favourites to secure the Championship star’s signature in January, according to sources talking to Football Insider.

And O’Rourke believes that Brereton Diaz could add a helpful amount of goals to Frank Lampard’s team if the striker was to link up with the former Chelsea manager at Goodison Park.

He said: “If there’s no new deal agreed, I’m sure there will be clubs looking to try and sign him for a cut-price fee in January.

“I’m sure Everton will be among those clubs, because obviously Frank Lampard has made them harder to beat, but they still struggle for goals on a regular basis. And that’s something that Brereton Diaz might add to the team.”

TIF Thoughts on O’Rourke’s comments…

We feel that Everton should be pushing the boat out to try and secure the Chile striker’s signature in the new year, with the club struggling for goals this season, despite being defensively solid.

The 23-year-old striker has scored 30 Championship goals for Blackburn over the past two seasons according to Transfermarkt, suggesting that now may be the time for a Premier League side to take a risk on the second-tier striker.

However, we think that it will be difficult to sway Brereton Diaz away from Sevilla, who will be competing in the Europa League after Christmas with the La Liga side unable to qualify for the Champions League knockout stages.
