It would not be a surprise if Everton and Alex Iwobi were to begin discussing terms of a new contract in the near future.

That is according to journalist Dean Jones, who was speaking to This is Futbol about the latest news at Goodison Park.

Iwobi has been something of a revelation for the Merseyside club, since manager Frank Lampard moved him into a midfield position rather than playing as a winger.

The Liverpool Echo reported back in September that Everton had opened contract talks with the 26-year-old, whose contract expires in the summer of 2024, but nothing more has come of the talks as of yet.

And Jones believes that talks will start up soon to avoid any potential issues within the Goodison dressing room.

He said: “They don’t allow any potential problems to have a negative influence on them going forward.

“So, it wouldn’t surprise me at all if the Iwobi contract talks were to start up soon.”

TIF Thoughts on Jones’ comments…

We believe that it would be in the best interests of the club to get Iwobi’s contract situation sewn up as soon as possible so that the club can look forward to the 58-time Nigeria international’s future with the club.

An average SofaScore rating of 6.92 for the Premier League season so far represents a level of consistency from the former Arsenal man, suggesting that he has handled the switch to midfield from out wide particularly well.

Therefore, we think that a new contract for Iwobi would not only give the midfielder a significant boost, but it would also bring joy to the Goodison Park faithful.
