Journalist Fabrizio Romano has handed Arsenal a contract boost with his latest updates on Gabriel Martinelli and Bukayo Saka.
At the moment, the Gunners are flying. Indeed, they sit at the top of the Premier League after nine games, losing just one match and winning the rest.
However, as much as they are enjoying the present, Arsenal will be planning for the future, and will no doubt hope to tie two of their key men down to new contracts.
Indeed, Martinelli and Saka – who both starred in the 3-2 win over Liverpool at the weekend – are currently a ‘work in progress’ for the club in regard to getting both signed to new deals.
While speaking on his YouTube channel, Romano provided good news on the duo as they were said to be keen to remain part of Mikel Arteta’s project.
In full, he explained: “What we can say is that Arsenal and Gabriel Martinelli’s agents are already in discussions over a new contract. So there are negotiations ongoing with Gabriel Martinelli.
“Let me say that the same is with Bukayo Saka. So Arsenal want to extend both contracts, and from what I’m told, Bukayo Saka’s feeling is the same as Gabriel Martinelli – Bukayo wants to stay. He’s really happy with Arsenal, with the team, with the board, with the manager, with the teammates, with the fans – everything is perfect at the moment with Arsenal.
“They’re doing great in the Premier League. The project looks fantastic, and this is why both Saka and Martinelli want to continue. Then it’s time to find a financial agreement on the salary, on the length of the contract.
“For Martinelli, it could be a five-year deal. This is the discussion also about the length of the contract, and not just about the salary – and so [a] work in progress for Martinelli and Saka.”

Both players will see their current deals expire in 2024, but it has been reported in the Evening Standard that Saka’s deal can be extended by one year, while Martinelli’s can be extended by two.
However, following this update from Romano, it seems as though Arsenal may not bother with those short-term extensions as they seem keen to tie their key men down to longer deals.
This will certainly come as a huge boost for fans of the club. After all, in all competitions so far this season, the pair have scored seven goals and provided six assists between them.
Taking everything into account, it’s no shock that Arsenal are aiming to keep both in north London for as long as possible.
