Phil Hay has criticised Leeds United’s inability to sign a senior striker over the summer as they continue to struggle in front of goal.

Leeds currently find themselves in a torrid run of form having gone winless in their last six league games which has seen them slip down the Premier League table and are now just one point above the bottom three.

It seems pretty obvious where the issues lie, they’ve scored more than one goal in a game just twice in their last six fixtures, although Marsch is not able to do much about it given the transfer window, is closed and Leeds decided against signing a senior striker to help ease the pressure off of Bamford this season despite his injury setbacks over the last 12 months.

Hay has been lamenting Leeds’ inability to bring in another striker over the summer on the latest episode of The Phil Hay Show.

(22:15) “The goals I think are going to have to come from him [Bamford] we’ve debated many, many times about the failure to sign a proven established quality number nine in the transfer window.

Will Leeds regret not signing a striker?

Yes!

Yes!

No!

No!

“Absolutely nothing that can be done about that at the moment because it’s October, and the window doesn’t open until January there’s no wriggle room to do anything.

“The goals have got to come internally, and I don’t think there’s any way that you can look at yesterday’s game and not feel that if they’re going to come from anywhere, they’re going to have to come from him [Bamford].

TIF Thoughts on Leeds’ attacking woes…

The worst thing that could have potentially happened to Leeds, was Rodrigo hitting a purple patch of form early on in the season when the transfer window was open as that may well have convinced the board that Marsch had enough in the final third.

This was a low point in Leeds United's history, but how many points did they get in the 2003/04 campaign?

As it turned out, Rodrigo has not scored since the third game of the season and Bamford is clearly still not 100% having missed a huge chance vs Arsenal before then slotting his penalty wide of the post.

While Leeds did indeed sign an international striker in the form of Wilfried Gnonto, he’s only 18 and is yet to be handed a Premier League minute which would suggest he’s not yet ready for the top flight and thus, doesn’t offer Marsch a viable option to improve the club’s poor form in front of goal.
