Tottenham Hotspur could land upon a large sum of money if former talent and current Sporting CP wide man Marcus Edwards is sold for a decent transfer fee in a transfer window in the future.
That is according to transfer insider Dean Jones, who was speaking to GIVEMESPORT about the latest news at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Edwards left the north London club for Portuguese side Vitoria Guimaraes in 2019. After joining Sporting at the beginning of 2022, the Lilywhites re-negotiated the clause so that they would again receive a transfer fee if the 23-year-old is sold.
Reports have recently surfaced suggesting the former England U20 international has a £52m release clause in his contract with the Portuguese giants, meaning that Spurs would pocket around £26m if a club was willing to pay that fee.
And Jones believes that Edwards’ main focus should now be on “career management” with the Spurs academy product having a successful career ahead of him, should he make the right moves.
“He’s an unbelievable talent. And anyone who’s seen him has known that for years, to be honest.
“I remember years back being at Spurs’ training ground, and people were talking about him in glowing terms then, but it’s all about career management for him. And that’s the big challenge.”
TIF Thoughts on Jones’ comments
We believe that Edwards’ next move will be the most important of his career, and we believe that if he makes the right choice, he could possibly have a future with the England national team.
The London-born wide man, who has been dubbed as “immense” by Brian Fonseca, has enjoyed a solid start to the current campaign, scoring four goals and providing three assists in nine appearances so far this campaign, according to Transfermarkt.
Therefore, we believe that if Edwards stays grounded and keeps enjoying his football, we will be interested to see if a future lies in the Premier League for him in the coming years.
