According to Fabrizio Romano, Nottingham Forest were looking at bringing in Italian striker Andrea Pinamonti this past summer, but they failed to reach an agreement.

Forest were one of the busiest teams in the market, not just in the Premier League, but in Europe as a whole – with the Reds bringing in 21 signings while spending an incredible £145.76m, according to Tranfermarkt.

It has now been revealed by Romano that they could have added another name to the list, as they were looking at Inter striker Pinamonti, who eventually made a loan move to fellow Italian side Sassuolo before the deadline.

Romano said: “Nottingham Forest have been really busy this market, more than 22, 23, 24 signings this summer – incredible work for Nottingham Forest. But they had also an Italian possibility.

“This is a new story about Andrea Pinamonti. A striker who signed for Sassuolo from Inter to replace Gianluca Scamacca, [he] was an option for Nottingham Forest. They wanted to sign him, they had some contacts, but in the end, it was impossible to reach an agreement and so Pinamonti decided to stay in Italy at Sassuolo, but was one of the options in the list of Nottingham Forest.”

TIF Thoughts on Pinamonti to Forest…

While they failed to bring in Pinamonti, the Garibaldi did manage to bolster their striking options with the additions of Taiwo Awoniyi, Emmanuel Dennis and Hwang Ui-jo, which gives them the necessary depth for the Premier League – although the latter has already been shipped off to Greece on loan.

However, Pinamonti would have been a great addition to their side, as he has already picked up a goal this season for Sassuolo and notched 13 goals and two assists in Serie A while on loan at Empoli last term.

It was reported that Pinamonti will cost Sassuolo around €20m (£17.3m), which could be considered a lot for a player who is yet to prove themselves in the Premier League, but considering the club’s willingness to spend money freely this summer, missing out on a young striker who came through the Inter academy could be seen as a missed opportunity come the end of the season.
