Journalist Conor McGilligan has claimed that Leeds United defender Diego Llorente should be dropped as he will ‘never be good enough’ for the club.
Having made a decent start to the new Premier League season, the Whites have now picked up just one point out of a possible nine in their past three games.
The most damning of performances came in the last match – a 5-2 thumping at the hands of Brentford, and after watching Llorente’s display in that game and the others before, McGilligan has demanded a change in the Leeds United defence.
While speaking on the One Leeds Fan Channel, he said: “I think an obvious change [is needed] at the back, and I think that’s going to have to be Diego Llorente.
“I’ve called for it now for the best part of a year. He’s not good enough. He will never be good enough. There is a reason that Real Sociedad have let him go. And for those four seasons, they haven’t replaced them. And last season they had one of the best defensive records in Europe.
“You know, Diego Llorente is not going to be a miss if Leeds United leave him out of the side. Now this is quite a ruthless analysis of Diego Llorente but that is one of the worst performances I’ve ever seen [against Brentford].”

Journalist Beren Cross also pointed out the failure’s of Llorente in that Brentford match, handing the player a 2/10 in his player ratings for LeedsLive and saying he has too many ‘minor errors’ and makes ‘simple tasks look like climbing Everest’
According to SofaScore, already this season the Spaniard has made two errors leading to a goal conceded by Leeds, and has helped the club to just one clean sheet in six outings.
With that in mind, it’s safe to say there is room for replacement in Jesse Marsch’s defence and it wouldn’t be a shock if Llorente did find himself on the bench soon enough.
