TalkSport’s Alex Crook believes Leeds United manager Jesse Marsch is in danger of becoming a caricature of himself due to his on-field outburst which saw him sent off at the weekend.
The 2022/23 Premier League season has already been a turbulent campaign for the West Yorkshire side as they currently sit ninth in the table, and while they have already picked up huge wins, they were recently on the end of an embarrassing 5-2 thrashing.
This latest result came this past weekend as they were beaten convincingly by Brentford, during which Marsch was sent off by the referee for protesting his decision to not give the Whites a penalty after youngster Crysencio Summerville was brought down in the box by Aaron Hickey.
After his protest and sending-off, Crook has issued a warning to Marsch on the recent GameDay podcast, claiming the American manager could harm his reputation if he continues these outbursts – but also insists the fans could get behind it.
He said: “I mean, I think he’s in danger of becoming a bit of a caricature of himself, but I think Leeds fans will buy into it. They like that ‘us against the world’ mentality anyway, so I don’t think he’s got a problem in terms of that.”

The Whites have started the season very well under Marsch after losing their two star players in Raphinha and Kalvin Phillips, but if they are to continue this good form and not fall back into another relegation scrap, they are going to need their manager on the sidelines for every game.
While it is commendable that Marsch is invested and will fight for his team during matches, he also needs to be smart with regard to how he goes about doing it. Getting yourself sent off when your team needs you to instil belief and confidence is never going to help.
There is no doubt Marsch is a talented manager and has the ability to take this Leeds side back to being top-half challengers just as they were a couple of seasons ago, but if he continues to recklessly get himself sent off and therefore miss games, it is only going to hurt the team.
