Phil Hay has claimed that Jamie Shackleton’s future at Leeds United is now looking rather bleak.

Having made 79 appearances for Leeds’ first team, Shackleton was shipped out on loan to Millwall in the Championship season in which he’s become a regular starting all but one game in the league this season.

However, that may well be where his future lies with Hay claiming that people both at Leeds and within Shackleton’s camp seeing this loan spell as the beginning of the end of his career at Elland Road and will likely be sold permanently next summer.

Hay spoke about Shackleton’s future on the latest episode of The Phil Hay Show.

“With Shackleton, I think he and Leeds know that they’re pretty much done and that they’ve kind of gone their separate ways temporarily this summer, but likely to be on a permanent basis somewhere, potentially Millwall next summer.”

Has Shackleton been handed a fair chance?

TIF Thoughts on Shackleton’s future…

Despite only being 21 appearances shy of bringing up 100 for Leeds, the majority of his time spent on the pitch was during the club’s Championship years and since their promotion to the Premier League, Shackleton has not been able to nail down a spot within the starting lineup.

At just 22, Shackleton is still very young and likely able to make a solid career for himself and could well come back to haunt the Whites if he ends up kicking on and establishing himself as a top player.

This was a low point in Leeds United's history, but how many points did they get in the 2003/04 campaign?

However, it is good to see that both parties are in agreement that his time at Leeds has already come to an end and he can now start focussing on next summer and working out what will be the best place for him to keep developing as a player.
