Everton may make a move for Blackburn Rovers and Chile striker Ben Brereton Diaz this January.

That is according to journalist Pete O’Rourke, who was speaking to This is Futbol about the latest news from Goodison Park during the international break.

According to the Daily Mail, Everton are one of a host of both Premier League and La Liga clubs that are scouting Brereton Diaz with a view to a potential January move, with the striker now in the final year of his contract in Lancashire.

The club were unable to secure the 23-year-old’s signature in the summer, despite attempting to hijack a potential move to Fulham, and the 14-time Chile international remained at Ewood Park following the transfer window’s closure.

And O’Rourke believes that the Toffees could make another move for Brereton Diaz in January, with the club having issues in the attacking third of the pitch.

“I can’t see why not [why Everton wouldn’t go back in for Brereton Diaz].

“They were very keen in the summer window before Blackburn decided to keep Brereton Diaz, despite offers from other clubs.

“Like I said, Everton are obviously getting some injured players back like Calvert-Lewin that will help them up front, but scoring goals has been an issue for Frank Lampard’s side as well.”

TIF Thoughts on O’Rourke’s comments

We agree with O’Rourke, and see no reason as to why Everton wouldn’t head back into the race for Brereton Diaz this winter, with the club struggling for a regular supply of goals in the Premier League so far.

Frank Lampard’s side currently rank 18th in the goal scoring department in the Premier League so far this season, suggesting that another centre-forward wouldn’t go amiss in January.

The Stoke-on-Trent-born striker, who has been dubbed a ‘beast’, scored 22 Championship goals in 37 appearances last season according to Transfermarkt, suggesting that he may be the solution that Everton are looking for in that number nine role.

Therefore, we think that Everton should be throwing their name into the hat amongst the many clubs vying for Brereton Diaz’s signature in the New Year, with the 6 foot 1 striker being the profile of striker that might just fit Lampard’s side down to a tee.
