Journalist Josh Bunting has said he is ‘gutted’ for Everton defender Nathan Patterson after he was forced off in a game due to injury.

With the international break currently taking place, the Scottish full-back represented his county earlier this week as they took on Ukraine at home.

In the end, second-half goals from John McGinn and a brace from Lyndon Dykes were enough to see their side cruise to a 3-0 win in Group B1 of the UEFA Nations League.

However, in worrying news for Everton, Patterson was stretchered off early in the game leading to plenty of fears over his fitness.

Indeed, reacting to the news, Bunting said on Twitter: “Gutted for Nathan Patterson coming off, he’s been excellent of late for Everton. Just when he was really starting to nail down his place in the Toffees starting eleven, and he goes and gets injured over the international break. Hopefully, in his case, it’s not as bad as it looked.”

After the game Scotland manager Steve Clarke also seemed alarmed by the injury, telling reporters ‘it doesn’t look too good when he goes off on a stretcher’. He admitted that, for now, everyone will just have to ‘wait and see’ how bad it is, but he hoped it wasn’t too serious.

Do you remember who Alex Iwobi was signed from?

This development will come as a particular blow for Patterson as he was impressing for Everton recently, just as Bunting pointed out with his Tweet.

Indeed, started in all seven of the Toffees’ Premier League games so far and has averaged an impressive average match rating of 7.07 per game on SofaScore during that period.

With that in mind, it will be a real kick in the teeth for the player and his club if he is set for a spell on the sidelines now.
