Rangers Review writer Jonny McFarlane believes that Alfredo Morelos seems ‘a little bit on the chubby side’ after his return from injury.
The Colombian striker was back in the squad and the goals following a thigh injury that required surgery last season, as he came off the bench to score in the Gers’ 2-0 win over Kilmarnock at the weekend.
However, his appearance led journalist Stephen McGowan to claim that he still looked ‘overweight’ – and it appears that he is still working his way back, having started on the bench for Tuesday’s crunch Champions League qualifier with Union Saint-Gilloise, which the Bears won 3-0.
Morelos played 11 minutes and watched on as summer signing Antonio Colak scored for the second game in succession.
McFarlane also feels that Morelos still has a bit of work to do, although he noted the striker has managed to get himself back into shape before.
Speaking on the Rangers Review YouTube channel when discussing Colak’s impact, he said: “I’m really happy with him, I think he’s looking like a bargain at the price that was paid, and I’ve no concerns whatsoever about Colak.
“The notion that Alfredo Morelos is getting himself fit eventually – I’ll be honest with you, I think Alfredo looks a little bit on the chubby side at the moment.
“We’ve seen it a few times before with Alfredo where he gets himself sharp over time, but he’s under pressure, because Colak’s looking good.”

Ex-Ibrox captain Barry Ferguson revealed back in May that as soon as Giovanni van Bronckhorst arrived in Glasgow, the manager ‘struck five kilos off’ Morelos, and it seemed to have worked as after a slow start to last season, he went on to score 12 times in all competitions before his injury setback in March.
However, it appears that he may have to go through a similar workload once again to regain that form.
Morelos has finished as the club’s top scorer in the Scottish Premiership in four of his five seasons with the Light Blues, but with Colak seemingly hitting the ground running, he may have to bide his time and gradually work his way back to being the first-choice striker.
I.ve said for years about morelos weight problems but you would think with colak there that would be great motivation to get him upto speed hopefully its short term but his weights been a problem for a few years now.
