Journalist Dean Jones has claimed that if Wolverhampton Wanderers can sign Matheus Nunes then it would strengthen them massively.
Wolverhampton Wanderers are one of the Premier League sides that have shown interest in Matheus Nunes in this summer transfer window, and runners-up from last season, Liverpool, have recently cooled their interest for the Portuguese midfielder.
However, it may not be a cheap one for Wolves to get over the line as his current club Sporting CP have a release clause in his contract of £51m, so they would have to break the bank in order to get him in the door at Molineux.
Although it might cost Wolves a significant amount of money if they were to sign Nunes, Jones spoke to GiveMeSport and claimed that he would really strengthen their squad.
“They’re looking a bit deeper to midfielder and Matheus Nunes seems to be one that is clearly in their thoughts now. If Wolves can actually get a deal done on that front, it would really, really strengthen them,” Jones said.

Joao Moutinho has been a mainstay in the Wolves side since they gained promotion to the Premier League, he has featured 144 times across four seasons but he was recently given a one-year contract extension, and at 35 years old he could be playing in his last season at the club, so Nunes could be the long term replacement for him, despite him being more advanced.
Nunes has been given the praise from one of the best managers in world football when Pep Guardiola labelled him as “one of the best players in the world”, so based on this he would certainly have a positive impact at Wolves.
With the £51m price tag that Nunes has, it will be interesting to see if Wolves fork out the cash and pay the money for the 23-year-old because he could be a player that would be in the side for several years to come and could help them push on and fight for a European place.
However, it’s not as simple as just offering Sporting Lisbon the funds as Matheus Nunes doesn’t seem to keen on joining.
