Journalist Dean Jones has claimed that West Ham United are looking at Eric Bailly as an option in this summer’s transfer window.

According to TalkSport, Bailly is a man on West Ham United’s shortlist as they seek a central defender due to the injury crisis the club have in that area of the pitch.

Nayef Aguerd was brought into the club by David Moyes this summer, but he picked up an injury in pre-season that has led to him being sidelined for the foreseeable future. Craig Dawson is also forced to watch from the stands at present due to injury, while Issa Diop has recently joined Fulham.

West Ham have reportedly submitted a bid for Thilo Kehrer, but whilst speaking to GiveMeSport, Jones claimed that Bailly is someone who they have been looking at if a deal for the German defender does not go through.

He said: “Eric Bailly at Man United is one they have been looking at. It still might be one that they turn back to if they weren’t to get Kehrer.”

TIF Thoughts on Jones’ comments…

Bailly had a frustrating season last term for Manchester United as he made just four appearances in the Premier League. The Ivorian suffered from injuries and fell out of favour when he returned to match fitness.

However, he could be a good option for the Hammers because he would resolve the short-term issue at the back – with Ben Johnson having to feature in the heart of defence in the opening fixture of the season – and he would provide backup for Kurt Zouma and Aguerd as and when they need rest throughout the season.

Albeit, Moyes seems to be set on Kehrer, who is versatile, having offered his services at right-back as well as centrally for Paris Saint-Germain last term. But if a deal for the German fails, it will be interesting to see if the Scottish manager does indeed turn his attention towards Bailly.
