According to Toby Cudworth of 90min, West Ham United are interested in bringing in Conor Gallagher on loan this summer to improve their ‘stale’ midfield.

The 22-year-old has struggled to find consistent football since he arrived back at his parent club after his incredibly successful loan spell last season, which has garnered interest from many Premier League clubs, including the Hammers.

So far this season, David Moyes’ side have struggled in the league, losing all three of their opening games without scoring, and Cudworth believes bringing in Gallagher could help reinvigorate their midfield, which has been less than impressive.

Cudworth told the Talking Transfers podcast: “Conor Gallagher – we’ve reported previously West Ham made an enquiry and Chelsea knocked that back.

“But West Ham need to bring in another central midfielder to break up that Rice-Soucek midfield pivot that’s just gone so stale.

“Declan Rice has had a slow start to the season, but Tomas Soucek looks a million miles away from the player who won club Player of the Year in 2020/21.”

TIF Thoughts on Gallagher to West Ham…

While Chelsea would surely be reluctant to lose any more of their young starlets, a loan deal for Gallagher to West Ham could be the best thing for the player – who made his first start at the weekend – if he doesn’t get consistent game time to improve and become a useful asset.

So far this season, Gallagher, who is listed as a similar player to Jude Bellingham by statistics database FBref, has picked up just 69 minutes in his three appearances and was given just a 4/10 rating for his performance against Leeds by the Evening Standard. This is a huge fall from grace after he shone at Palace last season, picking up eight goals and five assists in all competitions.

Both Gallagher and West Ham need improvement and we believe that bringing the two together could be the best solution. West Ham would get a proven midfielder who is hard-working and hungry for first-team football and Gallagher would seal his move to a side where he will play while still challenging for Europe.
