Journalist Charlie Eccleshare has claimed that Ivan Perisic can give Antonio Conte what he’s been ‘craving’ at Tottenham Hotspur after his recent pre-season display.
In a game of few chances, Roger Ibanez’s header from Paulo Dybala’s first-half corner was enough to settle the affair, with the Italian outfit winning the match 1-0.
Despite the result, it seems as though the performance of Perisic was enough to leave Eccleshare pretty excited – and he took to Twitter to explain why.
He wrote: “The shots from range, the bursts into the box, the take-ons. The sense of attacking threat generally. Ivan Perisic may not be fully fit yet, but against Roma he gave a glimpse of what Conte’s been craving from his wing-backs since taking over at THFC.”
Will Ivan Perisic shine at Spurs this season?
TIF Thoughts on Ivan Perisic and Spurs…
The journalist went into more detail in an article for The Athletic, where he claimed that Perisic is ‘everything Antonio Conte wants in a wing-back’ due to his ability to contribute to attacks.
Eccleshare explained that the Croatian, who was making his first start in a Spurs shirt, had more of an influence as the game grew on, pushing forward so frequently he even got caught offside on one occasion.
With over 100 goals and 100 assists across a career that has seen him play for the likes of Inter and Bayern Munich, Perisic certainly knows where the goal is. And if this is what Conte wants from his wing-backs, the 33-year-old may well be the man to deliver some more next season.
