Journalist Ben Jacobs has been speaking on The Spurs Watch’s Twitter Space about how Harry Winks remaining at Tottenham Hotspur is having a knock-on effect on potential incomings.

Spurs showcased why they have put their trust in Antonio Conte and provided him with game-changing players off the bench such as Yves Bissouma and Richarlison as they dug in and picked up a valuable point away at Stamford Bridge this weekend.

Conte was said to be very happy during pre-season after being backed sufficiently by Daniel Levy, but after the seemingly inevitable arrival of Destiny Udogie, who’ll be loaned out immediately, there could even be more new signings if fringe players who aren’t allowed to train with the first team can find new clubs.

Jacobs believes that Winks is one of those players and that the lack of activity in regard to his situation is having a knock-on effect when it comes to new signings.

He said: “Winks is the one of the so-called ‘quartet’ training by themselves that might be the most problematic to actually offload, and he reminds me in that respect of Ross Barkley, even though Celtic have now come in for him – two players that are short of game time and confidence, and that has a huge knock-on effect in trying to offload the player.

Is Winks good enough for Spurs?

Yes!

Yes!

No!

No!

“So I think that it could well go down to the end of the window as to whether Winks is actually going to be able to find a club.”

TIF Thoughts on Winks’ future…

While Winks didn’t start a whole load of games under Conte last season, he did feature in 17 of the 28 games the Italian was in charge for in the Premier League, but the arrivals of Rodrigo Bentancur last January and Bissouma this summer shows Conte has little faith in the England midfielder.

Winks has previously been linked with a move to Everton this summer, but reports have also suggested that the Toffees aren’t actually that keen on the midfielder – an attitude perhaps shown by the arrival of Amadou Onana last week.

How well do you know where these Spurs signings came from? Take our quiz to find out! Firstly, where did Dimitar Berbatov arrive from?

It will be a difficult pill to swallow for Winks that he’s no longer wanted or even allowed to train with the first team at the club he’s spent his entire career with having come through the club’s academy, but for his own good, he needs to be playing football, because as it stands, he very likely won’t even get a spot in Conte’s 25-man Premier League squad.
