Tottenham Hotspur correspondent Alasdair Gold has been left disappointed with the news of Bryan Gil’s expected departure from N17.

The Spurs journalist has been speaking on his latest YouTube video ahead of the final week of this summer’s transfer window, with Gil a player who could potentially depart.

It is believed the Spaniard is set to return to Valencia on a season-long loan deal after spending the second half of the 2021/22 campaign at the Mestalla Stadium.

The 21-year-old only joined Spurs last summer in a player-plus-cash deal including Erik Lamela, but he has failed to nail down a regular spot in the Spurs XI.

Although the Spaniard was pictured at Hotspur Way on Thursday, Gold shared his concerns for the winger, with his immediate future expected to be with Valencia.

He said: “Bryan Gil, understandably, wants to play regular football. I’m a bit sad about it all, I’ll be honest. I do think Bryan Gil is going to be a big talent.

“Speaking to people about Bryan Gil, even this week, and as I always have about various players, with Bryan Gil, the same thing I keep hearing is that he’s a really skilful player, very intelligent, really good at taking on tactical stuff as well in sessions, works incredibly hard, a good character in the squad.”

TIF Thoughts on Gold’s comments…

We can appreciate where Gold is coming from with his comments considering some of the praise being given to the young winger, with the Spanish newspaper Marca hailing him as Johan Cruyff-like.

Will Gil make it at Spurs?

Yes

Yes

No

No

However, it has become apparent his physicality is not suited to life in the Premier League, and that can be seen through the lack of opportunities handed to him at Spurs.

With this in mind, we do struggle to see how – unless he gains regular game time – a return to La Liga will benefit Gil and his chances of making a name for himself at Spurs.

Surely a move to a lesser Premier League side would have been a better option for Gil and a return to Spain will only put his long-term Spurs future in further doubt.
