Journalist Chris Waugh has taken to Twitter to slam the latest decision announced by Newcastle United about the strip they will wear on Saturday.
The Magpies will head down to the south coast on Saturday likely brimming with confidence after a dominant opening game of the season and will be hoping to keep up this good run of form, which has seen them pick up the fourth-most points in the Premier League in 2022.
However, it can’t always be simple for Newcastle, as along with kit manufacturer Castore, the Magpies have announced that they will be wearing a one-off kit on Saturday which has pictures of the city’s skyline on it.
However, the only reason for this is because their other three kits all clash with Brighton’s home kit – something that Waugh was not impressed with as he tweeted:
Will Newcastle win on Saturday?
Yes!
No!
“As nice or otherwise as this kit may be, how can you have three kits & yet all of them clash with Brighton’s? Surely when they are designed in the first place, the manufacturer should be trying to avoid clashes with opposition home shirts.”
TIF Thoughts on this latest decision…
It certainly isn’t a great look for Newcastle or Castore, especially with the latter coming in for a lot of criticism this summer – it just takes a quick search of their name on Twitter to see why – with a lot of Newcastle kits coming with bad stitching or incorrect spellings on them.
However, it is a strange decision from the Premier League to take considering that Brighton do indeed have a bright orange away kit that they could wear and although it would be less than ideal being their first home game of the season, it would save the Magpies having to go through a season wearing four different kits.
