According to journalist Graeme Bailey, Newcastle United will look to go back in for Bayer Leverkusen’s Moussa Diaby, claiming the player is open to a move.
After a busy start to their transfer window, which saw links to the likes of Diaby and Lucas Paqueta, the last few weeks have seen things slow down as the club continue attempts to bolster their squad before the window shuts.
Despite starting the season well under Eddie Howe, adding more talent to the side will only help the Magpies finish in the top half while putting the pressure on the European places.
90min journalist Bailey recently claimed on the LOADED MAG NUFC YouTube channel that the club could still look to go in for Diaby if he was to become available, and insists the player is open to a Premier League move.
Bailey said: “If he’s available, then clearly, Newcastle will be interested. He’s a player that Newcastle love, and rightfully so – for me, one of the under-the-radar star players in Europe. This boy is special, he really is.
“And we know Newcastle tried to get him earlier in the summer, Leverkusen stood firm.
“And the player does have an interest in coming to Newcastle – Newcastle weren’t going into this blind, they knew there was an interest from the player to come to Tyneside.”
TIF Thoughts on Diaby to Newcastle…
Diaby impressed during a terrific 2021/22 campaign, where he picked up 17 goals and 14 assists in all competitions for Leverkusen, as he helped the German side finish third in the Bundesliga table and qualify for the Champions League.
Adding a player of Diaby’s quality would undoubtedly be Newcastle’s biggest acquisition under the Saudi Public Investment Fund and to us, feels like it would put them on the map, the same way Robinho’s signing for Manchester City did.
A big sticking point for the Magpies in this deal was the huge £60m price tag the German club placed on Diaby, and considering they are now set to sign Alexander Isak for the same amount, while Diaby would be fantastic, it now looks harder to complete while keeping an eye on Financial Fair Play rules.
