Newcastle United are unlikely to sell Miguel Almiron this summer, according to journalist Graeme Bailey – unless there is plenty of incoming activity at St James’ Park.

So far this season, the Magpies have started very well, sitting sixth in the table and remaining undefeated after three games thanks to a huge 3-3 draw against the Premier League champions this past weekend.

One player who shone in this latest result was Almiron, who picked up the club’s equaliser in the 28th minute and played a huge role in their eventual draw, however, he has not always been in the good books of fans, as back in 2021, he received heavy criticism for his performances.

While selling the forward in past seasons might have been met with jubilation from the supporters, after his improved form, Bailey claims the club are not looking to sell him unless they receive a good enough offer and bring in reinforcements.

Bailey told the Loaded Mag NUFC YouTube channel: “It’d take a massive shift for Newcastle to be willing to let him go.

“I think he’s had an indifferent start to the season – obviously, very good against Man City but very poor in the previous two games.

“I don’t see Newcastle reducing the squad at the minute. If they got their three forwards in, they might contemplate it if it was a good enough offer, but no, I don’t think there’s anything [in it] – I think it’s people checking on him.

How well do you remember Newcastle's January transfer window? An easy one to start with: where did Newcastle sign Bruno Guimaraes from?

“I don’t see Newcastle letting Almiron out this month, unless, if they’re going to get [Lucas] Paqueta, [Joao] Pedro and [Bamba] Dieng or someone like that, if they get them three players in, possible. Never say never in this window.”

TIF Thoughts on Bailey’s comments…

Almiron is not the only player at Newcastle we have seen turn their form around since the arrival of PIF and Eddie Howe, as Brazilian midfielder Joelinton has found a new life in midfield alongside Bruno Guimaraes.

However, with just 15 goals in 126 appearances, it could be argued the Paraguayan is a more replaceable player for Howe and the Newcastle hierarchy – particularly as they have been linked with plenty of wingers this summer.

We feel the likes of Moussa Diaby (17 goals last season) and Harvey Barnes (11 goals) would be a vast improvement on Almiron, so if the club can raise funds for these transfers by selling the likes of Almiron, we think they should jump at the chance.
