YouTuber Conor McGilligan has said that Leeds United winger Dan James isn’t good enough to be a regular starter amid talk of a possible exit.

According to a recent report by Alan Nixon (via LeedsLive), the Welshman could be on the way out of Yorkshire before the summer transfer window shuts.

Indeed, Tottenham Hotspur are said to be eyeing up a deal that could see James arrive from Leeds on an initial loan before completing a £20m move – included as an obligation.

While it remains to be seen as to how close that deal is to actually happening, McGilligan has said that sort of money is ‘big’ for a player he doesn’t believe is a Premier League starter.

Speaking on the One Leeds Fan Channel, the presenter said: “I don’t see him as a Premier League starter. I don’t think he’s got the quality.

“I just think the effort, the desire, the fight, the passion, the speed is there. But I think you need more than that.

“And when his stock is maybe at £20m – which, I didn’t even think any club would offer £20m for Dan James, to be honest with you – that’s big, for me. That is big.”

TIF Thoughts on Dan James and Leeds…

Up to this point in the current campaign, James has started just one Premier League game, but was a regular from the off last season as he had 31 starts for Leeds.

Clearly, he has been trusted on a number of occasions by his managers in the past, but this may have been influenced by the fact that fellow forward Patrick Bamford missed so many games last term with injury.

On top of that, it’s one thing starting for Leeds and another doing so for a top-six side like Spurs. Indeed, at Manchester United, James wasn’t always trusted in the first XI – making just 11 starts in his final full season there.

McGilligan clearly feels as though James isn’t quite good enough to start every week for the Whites, so if they can offload him for that touted £20m, it could be a great sale to pull off.
