Fabrizio Romano has claimed that there was ‘no way’ for Leeds United to sign Charles De Ketelaere this summer as he preferred a move to Italian champions Milan.
The news will not be music to the ears of Leeds United fans, who would have been hoping to see their side look to solve their goalscoring problem this summer. The Yorkshire club managed to score just 42 goals in the Premier League last season – a tally only better than four teams.
Patrick Bamford, Leeds United’s usual talisman, missed a total of 30 games last season, and the question must be asked regarding his reliability when it comes to staying injury-free.
De Ketelaere could have been a good option for Leeds given just how impressive he was in the last campaign. In all competitions, he managed 18 goals and 10 assists for Club Brugge.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Milan beckons for the Belgian, however, with the Serie A champions set to get themselves a forward who is coming off the back of an incredible campaign.
Romano ruled out Leeds making a move, saying on his YouTube channel: “No way for Leeds, they were trying and trying for De Ketelaere, they did their best, but the player wanted AC Milan move, and so Leeds will find a new striker, I’m sure.”
TIF Thoughts on Charles De Ketelaere…
Of course, those at Leeds United will be disappointed to have missed out on De Ketelaere. But with another month left to go until the transfer deadline, they still have time to find themselves a reliable goalscorer – and should be encouraged by Romano’s claim that he’s ‘sure’ another striker will be found by 1st September.
Jesse Marsch has already been heavily backed this summer, but a striker could become the difference-maker as the Whites aim to put last season’s disappointing campaign behind them.
