YouTuber Conor McGilligan has stated that he would not turn down the chance for Leeds United to sign Ismaila Sarr, but insists the player is not a necessity for the club.
The Whites have done well so far this window to add players to their attacking core after losing their star man Raphinha to Barcelona, and it looks like they are not done there with the latest rumours circulating around the side.
One player that was recently linked is Sarr, as it was reported by Foot Mercato (via HITC) that he was close to joining the Yorkshire side amid speculation Crystal Palace are looking to hijack their move. As a result of this link, McGilligan has stated that while he would like the signing, he is not crucial for Leeds’ current needs.
McGilligan told the One Leeds Fan Channel: “I would not say no to Ismaila Sarr. A very different profile to what I would expect Leeds to go for, though. And when I say I wouldn’t say no to him, it’s just adding quality to that forward line and maybe getting some upgrades in there.
“But if you’re talking about positionally, players that Leeds United need and require and are, as of right now, a necessity, he’s probably not the profile I would go for. But just in terms of quality and upgrades, yeah, I mean, Ismaila Sarr’s a very, very decent player.”
TIF Thoughts on Sarr to Leeds…
There is no doubt Sarr is a very talented player, exemplified by his goal from halfway against West Brom and his steady performances for a struggling Watford side last season, as he bagged five goals and two assists in just 22 games in the Premier League.
However, as McGilligan states, while he is a good player, he is not exactly what Leeds need after the signings of Luis Sinisterra and Brenden Aaronson. The club could be better off spending the money on a striker, where they are particularly thin as Patrick Bamford struggles with injuries and Rodrigo has failed to find consistency, despite a promising start to the current campaign.
Sarr did feature once in the centre-forward position last season, but failed to make an impact and therefore played most of his games on the right-hand side of an attacking front three. Given his history, Sarr could be a very good signing and make an impact in the Premier League if he is to return, but for Leeds, we agree with McGilligan that they should perhaps look elsewhere first.
