Phil Hay has admitted that he wouldn’t surprised if Leeds United ended the transfer window not signing a new striker.
There appears to be a clamour for a new striker to arrive at Elland Road before next week’s deadline with Jesse Marsch himself even confirming that they are indeed still on the hunt to find a new striker.
This position may not have been one of high priority had Patrick Bamford managed to stay fit, although that does appear to be a tall order now after yet another injury setback, although Rodrigo’s form may also have eased the desperate need for one and allowed Leeds more time to scout and assess their options.
Despite Leeds’ lack of attacking options through the middle, Hay has claimed on The Phil Hay Show that he wouldn’t be surprised if one didn’t arrive.

So I think it’s one of those were, my head is kind of saying putting all the pieces together, it wouldn’t surprise me at all if we go through the deadline without a striker coming in.

Marsch and some Leeds fans may have been hopeful that Gelhardt, after featuring 20 times in the league last season, could’ve been ready to step up and feature more often when Bamford isn’t fit, but after an apparent 6/10 performance vs Barnsley, that doesn’t appear to be the case.
The most recent striker to have been linked with Leeds is Hwang Hee-chan of Wolves, which won’t likely get many fans excited considering that during his one and only season in the Premier League he scored just five goals.
Therefore, as long as no new striker appears to be on the horizon, fans and Marsch will be hoping that Bamford can, first of all, get fit and stay on the pitch and secondly, hope that Rodrigo’s red hot form is here to stay.
