Leeds United: Phil Hay believes that Jesse Marsch would like to sign Hwang Hee-chan

Phil Hay believes that Jesse Marsch would like Leeds United to sign Hwang Hee-chan this transfer window.

Despite a rather busy transfer window thus far for Leeds and Marsch, one key area still appears to need some addressing and that is the striker position, especially given Patrick Bamford’s recent injury woes and also the fact Joe Gelhardt failed to impress vs Barnsley this midweek.

There have been reports linking Leeds to a handful of strikers such as Ollie Watkins and Che Adams, although they have both come into form recently registering three and four goal involvements respectively so their clubs may be reluctant to lose them, although Hwang, is also said to be on the radar according to MOT Leeds News (Via Sky Sports)

Hay was asked on The Phil Hay Show about if he believes there is genuine interest from Leeds in Hwang and he had this to say:

(52:40) “I think Marsch would have him, I think he would, but what Wolves would actually be willing to do with him is another question altogether.

“I think for example, if Wolves said we’ll ping him out on loan with an obligation, it’s probably exactly the sort of player where Marsch would say, yeah that could work for us, that could be quite good.”

TIF Thoughts on interest in Hwang…

Interestingly, some Leeds fans were angered by the amount of time that Ruben Neves and Hwang spent on the floor against Leeds on the opening day, which can be seen in the responses to Conor McGilligan’s post.

While Leeds do indeed need a new striker because they can’t rely on a teenager with just five league starts to his name and Rodrigo, who up until now, was not the most prolific striker in front of goal.

However, bringing in Hwang, who certainly didn’t set the world alight during his first season in the Premier League with Wolves, he managed just five goals across the season, may not be the best way for Leeds to splash out £20 million.

To give Rodrigo some praise, he is in superb form and is currently top of the goal-scoring table in the Premier League, but if this was to just be a purple patch and Bamford can’t remain fit, it would be back to square one for Marsch about trying to work out where the goal will come from.
