Phil Hay has taken to Twitter to heap praise on Leeds United goalkeeper Illan Meslier following the Yorkshire club’s stunning 3-0 victory over Chelsea.
It was arguably Leeds’ best performance under Jesse Marsch, with the American’s side leaving Chelsea with little chance by storming into a 2-0 in the first-half – courtesy of goals from Brenden Aaronson and Rodrigo – before placing the cherry on top through Jack Harrison’s goal.
The incredible victory continues what has been a solid start to the season for Leeds, with their unbeaten start continuing. So far, having played three games, they’ve defeated Wolverhampton Wanderers, drawn with Southampton, and beaten Chelsea to take seven points from a possible nine.
It was not the goal scorers that Hay singled out in the victory, however. Instead, it was the man with the clean sheet, Meslier. Hay tweeted:
Meslier getting big hugs from the coaching staff. Quietly fantastic all game. #lufc

TIF Thoughts on Meslier…
Though Meslier is still young – just 22, in fact – he is now an established Premier League goalkeeper, and continues to improve with every game. Against Chelsea, amongst the goals at the other end, the shot-stopper, as Hay put it, was indeed quietly fantastic.
If he can keep his current form up, then Meslier may just prove to be a key player in a Leeds side that looks capable of reaching higher ambitions than just survival this season. Considering their start to the season, Marsch’s side may just avoid a relegation battle, altogether.
Next up is a game against Brighton & Hove Albion, who Leeds will hope to defeat in order to make it four games unbeaten to start the season.
