Leeds United’s recruitment staff “will be working overtime” to try and secure the signing of a backup striker to Patrick Bamford this summer.

That is according to Dean Jones, who was speaking to This is Futbol about the club’s potential transfer business, heading into the final few weeks of the transfer window.

Jesse Marsch has been able to welcome seven new faces to the club this summer, but has yet to see a new striker come through the gates of Elland Road, with Bamford being the club’s only senior out-and-out striker at the time of writing.

This problem has been heightened over the last weekend, after the 28-year-old was forced off in Leeds’ 2-2 draw at Southampton with an adductor injury.

Jones believes that this injury demonstrates why the Whites need another senior striker option in the squad this season, and that the recruitment staff will be desperate to bring another forward to the club.

“Yeah, I mean, it’s the exact reason [Bamford’s injury] they still need backup in that department.

“The injury shouldn’t be too bad, but his injury record suggests it’s not the only problem that he’ll have over the course of the season.

“I think Leeds’ recruitment staff will be working overtime at the moment to come up with a solution to this problem.”

TIF Thoughts on Jones’ comments…

In Premier League football, it is negligent to only have one senior striker at your disposal, especially when the player is particularly injury-prone as shown last season.

In order to compete with other Premier League sides, Marsch needs to have Bamford fully fit throughout the season, or alternatively have another senior striker at his disposal so he can deal with Bamford’s injuries.

Therefore, we believe that Leeds fans will be delighted to hear that the club’s recruitment staff will be putting in the hours to try and get another striker through the gates of Elland Road, before September’s transfer deadline.
