Insider Dean Jones has claimed that reports linking Everton ace Anthony Gordon with a £50m transfer exit are not true.

It has recently become clear that the young forward could be on his way to a Premier League rival in the next few weeks before the summer window slams shut.

Indeed, Chelsea have been heavily linked to the player, with Sky Sports claiming that a bid of around £40-45m has been rejected, while The Times had claimed that a second offer of £50m was in the works.

However, while talking on The Football Terrace’s The Done Deal Show, Jones has said that talk of a £50m transfer isn’t true, with Chelsea actually offering much less than that.

He explained: “Somebody like Gordon can offer different traits in different roles, and I think that that’s what Chelsea are looking at.

“They will not spend £50m on him. That’s not where we’re at right now. Like, this isn’t a £50m transfer. Not sure exactly where that’s come from or why people are talking about it that much. It’s much less than that, especially initially.

“But also, of course, Everton don’t want to lose this player. And so in order to get him, Chelsea are going to have to come up with something, well, pretty tasty for Everton to cave.”

TIF Thoughts on Anthony Gordon and Everton…

Still only 21 years of age, Gordon looks to be a real prospect having scored four Premier League goals last term while also providing two assists, as he played a vital role in keeping Everton safe from relegation (via Transfermarkt).

However, when you think that former teammate Richarlison scored 10 goals and had five assists and moved to Tottenham Hotspur for £60m, talk of a £50m switch does seem a little high.

And so it does make a fair amount of sense from Jones to question these latest rumours. But Gordon is young, English and talented, and with the transfer window set to slam shut in just a few weeks, Chelsea could yet pay over the odds if they really want to land their man.
