Newcastle United star Miguel Almiron has been slammed for his performance on Friday afternoon against 1860 Munich.

Eddie Howe’s men cruised to victory in the first of their pre-season friendlies out in Austria with three second-half goals securing the victory.

Joe Willock, Bruno Guimaraes and Sean Longstaff were the men to get on the scoresheet in Austria which saw Almiron play in the second half.

Just a number of days ago, Almiron was the hero in the pre-season friendly against Gateshead where he was able to net two of the fire goals scored.

Although all the goals came with the 28-year-old on the pitch, Lee Ryder was far from impressed with his display which saw The Chronicle’s reporter award Almiron with a 6/10 rating: “Wasteful in the final third,’ he wrote.

TIF Thoughts on Ryder’s comments…

It has been a difficult number of years for the Paraguayan since he arrived on Tyneside from MLS for a fee believed to be in the region of over £21m.

Should NUFC sell Almiron this summer?

In 123 appearances for Newcastle across all competitions, Almiron has only been able to return a total of 19 goal involvements – nine goals coming in the Premier League (via Transfermarkt).

With this in mind and the direction in which the club are aiming to go, we do wonder how big of a pre-season this could be for Almiron?

The 28-year-old now has just two years remaining on his current deal with the Toon, but if they are looking to add to their attacking options, we think it could be the Paraguayan who may face a forced change of scenery.
