Journalist Lee Davey has discussed the potential transfer fee that could secure a deal for Newcastle United target and Lyon star man Lucas Paqueta this summer.

Newcastle are looking to bolster their midfield options this summer and has been linked with Paqueta extensively so far this summer, but a deal for the player has not developed so far this transfer window.

However, Davey recently revealed the Lyon hierarchy believes Paqueta’s future no longer lies with the French side and while the club will not let him go for a cheap fee, somewhere around the £60 million mark could get the deal done.

He told Loaded Mag NUFC: “I think this is definitely a goer but it’s going to be whoever meets that asking price. Jean-Michel Aulas has come out in recent days, the Lyon president, and said his future is not what it was.

“He’s obviously spoken to the manager Peter Bosz and told him he sees his future elsewhere. From what we read, there has been a transfer request put in by him.

“Lyon will not let him go for cheap, but I think anything around the £60m mark will probably secure the player.”

TIF Thoughts on Paqueta to Newcastle…

Paqueta could be one of the first huge signings under the Public Investment Fund’s reign as Newcastle owners as a deal of £60m would obliterate their current transfer record of £39.6m on Joelinton.

Last season Paqueta impressed at the French side with 11 goals and seven assists in all competitions while averaging 2.5 shots, 1.3 key passes, 2.2 dribbles, 1.8 tackles, and 1.4 long balls per game with 79.8& passing accuracy on 42.1 average passes per game.

He also ranked in the 99th percentile for tackles, 96th for pressures, 94th for progressive passes received, and 91st for total shots per game compared to other attacking midfielders and wingers across the top five leagues.

The stats show that he is a dynamic player who can do his defensive duties as well as produce at a high level further up the pitch. This kind of versatility is essential to success in the Premier League and despite the high price tag, he could be a great fit for the Magpies and Eddie Howe moving forward.
