Journalist Pete O’Rourke has claimed that getting the deal over the line for Alexandro Bernabei would relieve a massive headache for Ange Postecolou.

It has recently been announced that Celtic have signed Alexandro Bernabei from Lanus on a five-year contract, which means him the club’s third summer signing after they made the deal for Cameron Carter-Vickers permanent and also signed Ben Siegrist.

The left-back spot is one that was up in the air last season for Celtic, Greg Taylor was the first choice, but he suffered an injury that meant he missed large chunks of games. In Taylor’s absence, Juranovic had to step in at left-back when he naturally plays on the right side of the back four.

With Bernabei recently signing for Celtic, O’Rourke claimed to This Is Futbol that if he can come in and establish himself at left-back, then it would relieve a headache for Postecoglou.

He said: “Yeah it will be a big signing for Celtic if they can get this deal over the line. Left-back has been a problem for Celtic since Ange Postecoglou’s arrival, so if they can get a quality left-back to come in there and establish themselves as first-choice, it will be a big headache that’s been relived for Ange Postecoglou.”

TIF Thoughts on O’Rourke’s comments…

Taylor getting injured last season meant that Juranovic had to play out of position, which was far from ideal for Postecoglou, so there was no surprise when the Australian manager opted to bring in a left-back, who he will be hoping that he can cement his place in the starting XI for next season.

After Celtic won the Scottish Premiership last season, it means that they have secured qualification into the Champions League group stages, so Postecoglou will be looking to improve his squad after last season they were disappointingly knocked out of all three European competitions.
