Content creator and Sky Sports contributor Chris Hamill jokingly suggested that Celtic could fund a huge stadium expansion if they were to sign a very famous name in those parts.

Hamill was, of course, reacting to the news that the son of Parkhead phenomenon Henrik Larsson, Jordan, will be available as a free agent this summer.

His contract with Spartak Moscow is thought to have been terminated according to Fabrizio Romano with the 25-year-old already receiving offers.

Hamill, like most of the Celtic fanbase you’d imagine, is fascinated by the notion of seeing the Swede follow in his father’s footsteps having seen Henrik scored 242 goals in 315 appearances for the Hoops between 1997 and 2004 making ‘magnificent seven’ the third-highest scorer in the club’s history.

The journalist took to Twitter upon the news of Larsson’s free agency in excitement but did admit that it will be difficult to land the second-generation star.

Would Larsson actually be a good Celtic signing?

Yes

Yes

No

No

“I think Celtic would be able to expand Parkhead to 100k off the back of shirt sales alone,” he tweeted initially.

“20 goal contributions in 29 league starts in 20/21. Even if you take the emotion out of it (lol, I can’t) – he’s a £10-15m whose just entered his peak (and can play multiple positions) Sadly, I can picture a EUL side in a top division offering him substantial wages,” Hamill added.

TIF Thoughts on Larsson and Celtic…

If we were to look past the nostalgia and romance of this potential transfer which would no doubt boast an incredible amount of shirt sales, it could actually be a shrewd acquisition for the club on the field as well.

The centre-forward moved back to his native country in April in the wake of the ongoing trouble in Russia and was involved in five goals for AIK in 11 appearances and he has consistently produced at the top end of the pitch ever since his move to Moscow three years ago.

He has been capped seven times by Sweden and his compatriot and former midfielder Marcus Allback believes he could flourish in Glasgow labelling him a ‘great player’ with a lot of ‘good qualities’ and he could deal with the pressure saying he ‘would suit playing for Celtic.

So while fans are clamouring to see the King of Kings’ son line out for the Bhoys time will tell whether Ange Postecoglou sees actual value in a transfer as opposed to the sentimentality surrounding the deal.
