Wolverhampton Wanderers target Matheus Nunes would be “a great signing” for the club if the West Midlands side were able to bring the Sporting and Portugal midfielder to Molineux this summer.
That is according to Pete O’Rourke, who was speaking to This is Futbol about Wolves’ transfer plans this summer ahead of the start of the new season.
Bruno Lage’s side have been linked with a move for Nunes for the majority of the summer as they decided against signing the now-Fulham midfielder João Palhinha.
According to Record in Portugal (via BirminghamLive), Wolves are the only side to have made a ‘concrete offer’ for the 23-year-old Nunes this season worth £33.8m, although it is thought he is more likely to stay in Portugal this season rather than make a move to Molineux.
And according to Correio de Manha (via the Mirror) Premier League giants Liverpool are now preparing a bid for the eight-time Portugal international.
And O’Rourke believes that if Lage’s side were to secure the acquisition of Nunes this summer, it would be a fantastic signing for the club.
He said: “We all know that Wolves have missed out on a few targets this summer.
“So, if they can get Nunes in at Molineux, I think it’d be a great signing for the club.”
TIF Thoughts on O’Rourke’s comments…
We agree with O’Rourke in the sense that Nunes would be a fantastic addition at Molineux, especially with Everton’s reported interest in the club’s Belgium international midfielder, Leander Dendoncker.
However, we believe the signing is highly unlikely, due to the fact that the midfielder has Champions League sides circling around him, alongside Wolves’ inability to get transfers over the line at the moment, with the club only making one permanent signing this season in Republic of Ireland centre-back Nathan Collins for £20.5m from Burnley.
We believe that if Wolves are seriously interested in signing Nunes, they would be better off getting a deal over the line immediately, to prevent other clubs from taking him from under their nose.
