Journalist Pete O’Rourke has claimed that Everton might look at Nicolas Pepe to act as a replacement for Richarlison this summer.

There has been reported interest in Pepe from Everton in this summer transfer window, but they face stiff competition from several other Premier League sides who are also interested in the Ivory Coast international.

Pepe has had a tough time since he joined Arsenal, as after what hoped to be such a promising signing for the Gunners when they bought him for £72m from Lille in 2019, he has made a total of 112 appearances in all competitions whilst netting 27 times and chipping in with 21 assists, and it has not been an overly positive spell.

With Pepe being linked to Everton this summer, O’Rourke spoke to GiveMeSport and claimed that if he is available to get through the door at Goodison Park on loan, he could be someone that Frank Lampard ‘might look at’.

He said: “They may get a real bargain now, whether it’s on loan or not, but I think Everton are in the market for attacking reinforcements.

“They need to replace Richarlison and if Nicolas Pepe is available on loan, then it’s something Frank Lampard might look at.”

TIF Thoughts on O’Rourke’s comments…

Although Pepe has somewhat struggled since he made the move from France to England, in the 2020/21 Premier League campaign when given more regular game time, he netted 10 times in 29 appearances, so Lampard might see this and think that if he can give him a run of games then he could get the best out of the 27-year-old.

Everton have made just one summer signing in James Tarkowski on a free transfer, so Lampard might be looking to bolster his attack, especially after seeing last season’s top goalscorer Richarlison leave the club to join Spurs, but O’Rourke has claimed that the club’s reluctance to spend money could continue as they might only get Pepe in the door on loan.
