Insider ExWHUemployee has claimed that he is not sure why West Ham United have not gone in for Aaron Hickey this summer.

There were reports stating that Hickey was linked with a move to West Ham United this summer, but it has recently emerged that Premier League rivals Brentford are on the brink of signing him as he is about to undergo a medical at the club.

Hickey is a Scottish left-back who currently plays for Bologna in Serie A and was a mainstay for the Italian side last season, making a total of 36 appearances in the league whilst scoring five goals and adding one assist.

With Hickey on the verge of signing for Brentford, ExWHUemployee claimed on The Transfer Show that West Ham were interested – and remains unsure why they have not progressed the transfer.

He said: “It looks like Brentford expect to sign Aaron Hickey, the left-back from Bologna, which really surprises me – about £19m for him.

“Arsenal were linked with him, West Ham were linked with him. West Ham were interested, so I’m not sure why we’re allowing Brentford to have a free run on him.”

TIF Thoughts on Ex’s comments…

West Ham finished seventh in the Premier League last season, which meant that they missed out on qualification for the Europa League, so Moyes will be looking to bring in some new talent to the club this summer in the hope that they can have a more successful term next time around.

The Hammers have only added Nayef Aguerd to their backline so far this summer, so it might be frustrating for the West Ham faithful to see Hickey sign for Brentford for just £19m when he could have added quality to their defence and been part of the squad for the long term as he is just 20 years old.
