Pete O’Rourke has claimed that Jesse Lingard has been on Tottenham Hotspur’s radar ‘for a while’.

The midfielder is currently a free agent, having failed to sign a contract extension at Old Trafford. With just over a month left until the summer transfer window slams shut, too, decision time could be approaching for the England intentional regarding his next move.

Speaking to GiveMeSport, O’Rourke claimed that Lingard has been on Tottenham’s radar for a while, saying: “It’s an interesting link. I think he’s been on Tottenham’s radar for a while, maybe not the top of it.

“But he’s a free agent, Jesse Lingard, probably a player with a point to prove after the way it finished at Manchester United last season when he hardly ever played for them.”

According to Mike McGrath The Telegraph, Tottenham were considering making a move for Lingard in order to increase their squad ahead of next season’s inclusion in the Champions League. Meanwhile, West Ham, where Lingard endured a revitalised spell on loan in the 20/21 season, reportedly made an offer to the midfielder last month, according to Sky Sports.

Everton have also shown interest, according to Paul Joyce, and, as per ESPN, the England international is set to hear the pitches of MLS clubs. So, Lingard, who Rio Ferdinand called ‘amazing’, is certainly spoilt for choice.

TIF Thoughts on Pete O’Rourke’s Comments…

Interestingly, Lingard scored against Spurs back in February of 2021 as West Ham won 2-1.

Tottenham have not been shy when it comes to splashing the cash this summer, welcoming five new players, and spending a total of £78.48 million. With Lingard a free agent, too, and on the Spurs radar, according to O’Rourke, we could potentially see the former West Ham loanee cross the divide to play for the North London club.

As the World Cup approaches at the end of the year, the main thing that Lingard will want is game-time. It just remains to be seen where that game-time will be.
