Journalist Ben Jacobs has claimed on the NUFC Matters YouTube channel that Newcastle United are indeed interested in Youri Tielemans.

Over the weekend, Jacobs had claimed that Newcastle were said to have a growing interest in Tielemans after a rumoured move to London appeared to have cooled down significantly.

Tielemans has just one year left on his current contract and Leicester City have set his price tag at a reasonable £25m, which will be a big reason as to why the Magpies are very much interested in the midfielder.

Jacobs believes that Newcastle’s interest is only growing in Tielemans.

He said: “I think it’s possible, for sure, because Newcastle have developed a growing interest and Dan Ashworth has certainly had conversations about things like the price of the player and the terms through which he might come to a club like Newcastle.

Do you want Newcastle to sign Tielemans?

Yes!

Yes!

No!

No!

“But the Tielemans situation is both simple and complicated. So, the simple side of it is that Tielemans wants a move away from Leicester this window and won’t, in all likelihood, sign a new deal unless it gets to weeks or days before the window closes and he still doesn’t have another option.”

TIF Thoughts on Newcastle’s interest in Tielemans…

If Newcastle were able to prise Tielemans away from a potential rival next season in Leicester City, it would be a serious sign of their intent moving forward under PIF, as the midfielder would arguably arrive and be an instant starter in Eddie Howe’s side.

How well do you remember Newcastle's January transfer window? An easy one to start with: where did Newcastle sign Bruno Guimaraes from?

For Newcastle to potentially have a midfield trio of Bruno Guimaraes, Joelinton and Tielemans, that would surely make one of the best midfields outside of the top six, especially based on what people saw from the former two during the second half of last season.

Tielelmans has previously claimed that his next move would have to be a good project for him – and there may not be a better project in England than the one beginning at St James’ Park under PIF.
