Insider ExWHUemployee has confirmed that West Ham United have made a summer bid for 20-year-old Amadou Onana.

According to a recent tweet by Sky Sports reporter Dharmesh Sheth, the Hammers made a €23m (£19.8m) transfer offer for the Lille midfielder that was then rejected.

In response to this claim, Ex recently took to The West Ham Way Patreon page to provide an update on the situation and state whether or not reports were accurate.

The transfer expert was able to ‘confirm’ the story’s truth, while he also added that there is a lot of interest from other clubs – including those from the Premier League.

Ex said: “We first broke interest in the young Belgium defensive midfielder, who was born in Senegal and stands at 6 foot 5 about a month or so [ago] on the podcast, and it looks like the club have followed up on this initial interest.

“We can confirm that a bid was submitted but was also rejected. There is a lot of interest in the player, including from mainly Arsenal, but Liverpool, Monaco and another couple of Premier League teams. No doubt, Newcastle will emerge as one, they will challenge most of our targets as we predictably reported early on in this window.”

TIF Thoughts on Amadou Onana and West Ham…

Last term, the midfielder established himself as a regular starter in Ligue 1, while also introducing himself to the rest of Europe with eight outings in the Champions League.

Still only 20 years old, Onana evidently impressed at Lille during that time to draw all this interest from some big clubs in the current transfer market.

Indeed, it certainly seems as though West Ham are very keen on him – having already seen one bid rejected – but with the likes of Arsenal, Liverpool, and Newcastle United all mooted for a move, this deal looks as though it could end up developing into a bit of a saga.
