Journalist Pete O’Rourke has claimed that Newcastle United could lure Youri Tielemans to St James’ Park if their offer is lucrative enough to fend off any competition.

Newcastle are reportedly now interested in signing Tielemans this summer with the Belgian entering the last year of his contract, but they face competition from other Premier League sides who are also keen on the midfielder.

Tielemans provided 10 goal involvements in 32 Premier League games last season and has now made 158 appearances in all competitions across the four seasons that he has been with Leicester City.

And amid the Saudi takeover at Newcastle, O’Rourke spoke to GiveMeSport and claimed that they could offer Tielemans a better deal financially over their competitors to win the race to sign him.

He said: “They’ve obviously got the financial backing to go out there and sign the best players, and I’m sure they could make a lucrative offer to Tielemans if they do pursue a move for the Belgium international.

“That will be the way that they will try and persuade him to make the move to St James Park ahead of other clubs.”

TIF Thoughts on O’Rourke’s comments…

Tielemans could be a good option for Newcastle this summer if they can acquire his services because he is just 25 years old and has only one year left on his current contract, so they might be able to get him for a reduced price, as Leicester City may not be keen to let him leave on a free transfer at the end of next season.

The Belgian midfielder has proven that he can provide goals for his side from midfield, after he scored six goals and chipped in with four assists last season in the Premier League, so he could provide goals for Eddie Howe next season, which is something his side can certainly improve on.
