Newcastle United are still hoping to land Lucas Paqueta this summer with some sources briefed about the potential move.
This is according to the transfer guru Dean Jones who has been speaking to This Is Futbol about the possibility of the Toon adding another Brazilian to their midfield.
The Magpies have been linked with a move for the Lyon midfielder this summer with the 24-year-old already holding a close bond with Bruno Guimaraes.
But there have also been reports suggesting Tottenham Hotspur could look to lure in the Brazilian with Champions League football on offer in north London.
Yet Jones believes some around the Tyneside club have the understanding that a deal for Paqueta is still very much a possibility in the coming weeks:
“I know that other people are being briefed that yeah, this is one that could definitely happen. And this is one of the trickiest things about covering Newcastle in this transfer window, is there are a lot of voices now involved.”
TIF Thoughts on Jones’ comments…
This would certainly feel like another huge coup for the Magpies if they were able to beat the likes of Spurs who have a lot going for them in terms of Antonio Conte and European football.
Could NUFC beat Spurs to Paqueta?
Yes
No
How Newcastle would then set out their midfield would be interesting to see with their other two Brazilians, Joelinton and Guimaraes, also showing attacking intent last season.
However, having provided 15 goal involvements in Ligue 1 last season, the “magician” would be another big addition to Eddie Howe’s squad for the new campaign.
