Liverpool looked to get their transfer business down early this summer which would allow their signings to be eased into the first team and Jurgen Klopp’s way of doing things before being unleashed on the Premier League.
However, one piece of business they didn’t manage to get done was a deal for Aurelien Tchouameni, whom they wanted to bring to Anfield, although his heart was seemingly set on a move to Real Madrid.
Therefore, Romano believes Liverpool are now already looking at which centre midfielder they could sign next summer.
(23:48) “As of today, their plan is to focus on a new midfielder and they want a top midfielder for next summer because they wanted Tchouameni this summer, he had some conversations with Jurgen Klopp, so Liverpool were really trying for Tchouameni but then at the end, he decided to join Real Madrid.
Do Liverpool need to make more signings?
“I see Liverpool busy with conversations right now to sign a top midfielder next summer so this is the idea, this is the strategy and of course, they’re a big fan of Jude Bellingham. But I’m sure that there will be a crazy fight to sign Bellingham in summer 2023 because he’s not available on the market this summer and Borussia Dortmund will keep him at the club.”
TIF Thoughts on Liverpool’s plan to sign a top midfielder…
It has been well documented that Liverpool are interested in Jude Bellingham who’s starred for both England and Borussia Dortmund since his move from Birmingham back in 2020, however, given his talent at such a young age, as Romano alluded to, there is sure to be a lot of competition for his signature next summer.
While Liverpool were seemingly interested in Tchouameni this summer, the fact he ended up going to Real Madrid for £85 million would perhaps suggest why the Reds didn’t end up pulling the trigger having also spent over £75 million on transfers and perhaps didn’t want to go big this summer on two individuals following the arrival of Darwin Nunez.
