TalkSport reporter Alex Crook believes there is ‘substance’ to the claims linking Leeds United with a move for Cody Gakpo.

According to Foot Mercato, Leeds are eyeing the PSV winger as a potential replacement for the seemingly outbound Raphinha.

It is said that an ‘internal source’ at Elland Road told the French outlet that the 23-year-old is viewed as a ‘future offensive star’ by officials at the Whites.

The same source states that Victor Orta and his recruitment team would have no concerns over abiding by the €30m (£25m) asking price that the Eindhoven outfit have set.

Wolves’ Adama Traore is another name that is thought to be catching the eye in Yorkshire, but Crook isn’t convinced by the Spaniard and had an intriguing stance on Gakpo.

Do you think Leeds will sign Gakpo?

No

He told GiveMeSport“I’m not sure about Traore. He didn’t pull up any trees in Barcelona, and his stats for Wolves over the last couple of years haven’t been particularly good. And they’d want semi-decent money for him.

“Gakpo is one that has been mentioned to me on a couple of occasions. So, I think there’s probably some substance to that.”

TIF Thoughts on Gakpo and Leeds…

This was a low point in Leeds United's history, but how many points did they get in the 2003/04 campaign?

After a stellar campaign that saw the 7-cap Netherlands ace net 21 goals and provide 15 assists, it is no wonder that he is attracting interest, and he could be the man to fill the shoes of Raphinha should the Brazilian leave.

Former Netherlands midfielder Theo Janssen said he ‘has everything’ and he played a major role as the vice-captain as his boyhood club achieved Dutch Cup success last term, finishing the season as PSV’s joint-highest performer with a 7.51 average match rating (as per SofaScore).

He averaged 2.9 successful dribbles and 2.6 key passes per 90 minutes last term (SofaScore), and while he albeit tends to play on the opposite side to Raphinha on the left, he would surely be one to get fans off their feet if their Samba star does bid farewell this summer.
